Scripture Verses
Mark 12:41-44 (NIV)

41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins,[a]worth only a fraction of a penny.[b]

43Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

44They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."

Devotion
When we join the church we are asked to give of our time, our talents, and our treasure.
Some of us are given much in one area, maybe not so much in another.

In this Bible verse, Jesus is showing appreciation for the widow’s gift because she is giving to the best of her ability and withholding nothing.  This is what Jesus is asking of all of us.

Years ago, as a new Christian, it was hard for me to even think of tithing – too many bills – too much responsibility – not enough time.  As my life changed I plunged into giving of my time and sharing talents I wasn’t sure I had.  The treasure thing was the hardest.  Then, as I saw many changes in my life, somehow it became easier and more necessary for me to share and to thank God for the gifts I was given until one day I saw that I was tithing.  God didn’t just help.  He led me to this.  I wasn’t as wise as the widow in the scripture.  She saw what she needed to do and was blessed by Jesus for her generosity.  This is only the beginning.  Opportunities for helping are ever presenting themselves and, with God’s help, we can give where needed.  God blesses each of us when we give from the heart.

Prayer
Father, Thank you for guiding us through this life, for calling us to you, and for your blessings in each step of the way.  Amen.
