Homes for Haiti - Nov. 11, 2011

Greetings from Port-au-Prince:
Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Wow, we're having a great day!
This morning we traveled to the homesites to visit with the families,
Haitian workers and everyone else who showed up. Our prayer time and devotion was led by Paul this morning. Bibles were given to the
Haitian workers and families who will be living in the homes, courtesy
of the Shaferly's home church. We then spent some time with each of
the recipient families.

Becon is the recipient of home #15, and he shared a bit of his story.
He gave his life to Christ when he was in high school (he is currently
29 years old). Becon works at a school down the road, and he is also
studying civil engineering. He is not married, but he and two
brothers will be living in the new home. Becon currently lives next
to the house in a very small house that has some structural damage.
We prayed for Becon, his family and new home. Snacks and drinks were then passed out to the family, workers and others.

Francis and Madame Francis (aka Sandra) will be living in home #14.
They are also believers and they have five children. Their home was
destroyed in the earthquake. They managed to get some metal sheeting to put together a shelter for their family. Madame Francis kept thanking God for her new home and the family was so appreciative. Each of the families prepared lunch every work day for the Haitian workers, and they would have food for the U.S. team to try as well. Today was no different - Madame Francis prepared some beef, fries, plantain and onions for us to enjoy. We gathered inside the new home to pray together for this family and their new home. Again, the team distributed snacks, drinks and candy to the family, workers and lots of other people.

You always hear the same story about people who go on a short-term
mission trip to be a blessing to others, yet they are the ones who end
up getting the big blessing from the experience. Well, it's true! I
think each of us would agree that we got blessed in a major way
through this past week. Tomorrow, each of us travels to our
individual homes and families in Oregon and Indiana. But we take with
us new friendships, great experiences, a new perspective, hopefully a
closer walk with Jesus, and a piece of Haiti which I think will always
be in our hearts.

Thanks so much for all you have been doing so that we could experience this past week. God bless each of you!

For the team one last time,
Tommy
