Children Ministries
At Mt. Auburn, we believe that children come first. The Bible says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he shall not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Whether your child is 8 months or a pre-teen, we have many opportunities for your children to learn about the wonderful love of God. We also have opportunities for adults to take part in making our children’s ministry programs come alive.Nancy Van Dyke

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to help lead children, in partnership with their families, into a relationship with God through
Jesus Christ.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY GOALS
We would like all the children that come through our program to be able to say:
“I know Jesus is my Savior.”
“I need to do the right and wise thing.” (according to God’s word, the Bible)
“I can trust God no matter what.”
“I should treat others the way I want to be treated.” (The Golden Rule)
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Our Sunday morning educational programs are designed for children ages 2—6th grade. If you are a regular attendee, we require that parents/guardians complete a registration form for each child. Forms are available from Sunday school teachers and in the Children’s Ministry office. While the form allows us to better assess each program, it is also a way for parents to communicate any special needs your children may have and to express a desire to volunteer for programs.
Nursery
Children under the age of 2 are welcome in the nursery at every Sunday morning worship service. The nursery room is staffed by adults and responsible teenagers volunteering as helpers. They will endeavor to give the children the same care you would give—rocking, singing, reading, changing diapers, and loving them for you so you may spend quality time in worship. The nursery uses a pager system in conjunction with their registration process. Contact Mindi Lewis, Nursery Coordinator, at 736-6521 or our Director of Children’s Ministries with any questions.
Age Preschool 5 and Under
Children in preschool age 5 and under are placed in classes based on their birthdates, and are promoted to the next level based on their ages. Programs for these age levels are designed to let the children get to know God and the love of Jesus through active Bible lessons, crafts, games and music.
Kindergarten—6th Grade
School-aged children age 5-6th grade are placed in classes by current grade, and are promoted in August of each year, in conjunction with the local public school year. Programs for these age levels focus on the children experiencing and obtaining a deeper understanding of the Bible and all its stories. Third grade children are given gift Bibles during a special presentation at the beginning of the school year. Fourth, 5th and 6th grade children become more familiar and comfortable with their Bible through their weekly lessons, games and Bible stories.

CORNERSTONE PROGRAM
The Cornerstone Program meets every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 4 years through the 4th grade. Children should be signed into their designated classroom by a parent beginning at 10:20 a.m. Each class has a schedule that includes a Bible lesson for that particular week, music, and an activity.
The Cornerstone Program ends with the conclusion of the adult worship service. At this time, parents should pick up their children and sign them out from the classroom which they were signed into.
Volunteer Opportunities
In each class, adults play an important role as teachers, mentors and role models. To ensure each child’s safety, all adults have had appropriate background checks and have participated in educational workshops on topics of safety and security.
Two adults provide instruction and supervision at all times. Teachers are assigned based upon a year of commitment so children develop strong relationships with the teachers.
If you have any questions or would otherwise like to be involved with our Sunday School programs, please contact our Director of Children’s Ministries at 535-8555, ext. 1319.
