What We Believe
The Core Values of Mt. Auburn United Methodist ChurchGreenwood, Indiana
1. The Church belongs to God. It doesn’t matter what we want or what we think. The only thing that matters is – “What does God want and what does He think?” (Acts 20:28)
2. Everything we do must honor Christ. He loved the Church and gave His life for it. We are saved by grace through faith. We seek to serve Christ in appreciation for this free gift of salvation. (Eph. 1:22,23; 2:8- 10)
3. The Church must be Spirit directed and Spirit powered. By our own strength and devices we will fail. (John 14:16-26)
4. Prayer is our lifeline to God. It is the most important thing we do as a Church. Through prayer we not only discern God’s will but also access His power. (Matt. 7:7-11)
5. The Bible is God’s Word for us. We aim to be biblically grounded and theologically sound in harmony with the historic truth of the Christian Faith. Spirit anointed preaching and teaching of God’s Word transforms lives and the Church. (II Timothy 3:16, 17)
6. Every member is a minister; although we do not all have the same ministry. We each are to serve as God has made us. We do not hire staff to do the ministry for us, but to help the congregation do ministry. (Ephesians 4:7, 11-12)
7. The Church is meant to be an earlier Heaven. The love we experience here in fellowship with God’s family only foreshadows that which we will know over there. This love is best lived out in the fellowship of small groups. (Acts 2:42-46)
8. Discipleship – being a disciple of Jesus and making disciples for Him – is the journey of a lifetime. (Matthew 16:24)
9. Lost people matter to God, therefore they have to matter to us. As a Church we exist for the people not yet here. (Luke 15:1-7; 19:10)
10. We are United Methodists who choose to live out our faith in a connectional system following the rules of The Discipline.
